2021.10.23 02:48 Goblinkiong56 Azaleas

Her azaleas were beautiful. I was envious. My azaleas won’t grow. They wither and weep. Her azaleas shined. They stood proud, and indifferent. My azaleas begged for the sun, for light. Her azaleas tamed the sun. I was so jealous of her azaleas.? So I cut them, cut them into stems. Now her azaleas are worse than mine.

2021.10.23 02:48 Critical_Elderberry7 Help making high level characters for new players

I plan on doing a one shot with a few of my friends and plan on starting them off at level 15, though I feel like they might have trouble understanding all of their character abilities as people who have never played before and get discouraged. I also feel like creating a character at level 15 might be kind of daunting and just feel like homework for my players. Should I create characters for them or give them random pre-made characters? Also do you have any suggestions on how to make their abilities easy to understand? I’ve played with new players before and combat can often slow down to a crawl as players are unable to figure out what abilities to use and then everyone becomes bored and on their phone. What would you guys do in my situation?

2021.10.23 02:48 Ocelot_Downtown They say there's no such thing as a "bad" win

But I'm going to disagree with that. The only thing I'll say about this is that I'm glad they actually pulled it out, against a team with the longest current losing streak in the nation and arguably one of the worst teams in D1 right now, as opposed to losing which is where they were headed. No praise warranted.
So "yay" for the win but this changes nothing. If not for Arizona being slightly worse than UW this would have easily been a loss against anyone else in the conference. Can't wait for Jimmy to spin this into some great turnaround. Yuck.
And as I'm typing this, the ESPN announcer says, "is this going to silence some of the critics in Seattle?" And, "A win in a win." Yeah, no, I don't so. Better than a loss and that's about it. Changes nothing. Garbage play. No positive takeaways considering quality of opponent.

2021.10.23 02:48 4_Loko_Samurino It's really sad that Dave's powerful message gets lost in translation and misrepresented.

I've loved stand up comedy all my life.
Comedy is an art, and a tool to discuss difficult subjects. It creates bridges to and from isolated groups of individuals. It cleverly draws on minor differences to identify and elevate subtle yet important similarities between us. This is something people do very poorly on our own, outside of comedy and within our own separate communities.
Chappelle takes this tool to incredible heights, but he never does it without showing true compassion for the people he criticizes. He never expresses his art without highlighting the humanity in the people he takes shots at.
Comedy isn't meant to be a careful balancing act between good or bad. It's a craft that makes the delivery of obvious falsehoods and compelling truths... fun and entertaining! Chappelle understands this with astonishing clarity.
Not only does he subvert our expectations with the things he says that aren't true, or the things he says that he doesn't necessarily believe in that make us all think "Oh wow, I can't believe he went THERE!" He also miraculously finds a less traditional way to subvert our expectations while conveying his real message to the audience.
Chappelle, in the same comfortable space where we come to laugh, delivers truths that make us uncomfortable. Truths that tug at our heart strings, make us sad or ashamed. He creates occasions that give us pause because they act as a stark contrast to our expectations of comedy.
He gives us something we don't normally get in most routines, a moment wherein the comedian is no longer joking. An instant where he's completely serious and isn't trying to make you laugh. He already knows he can make you laugh. He wants to make you think, to understand something he or someone else has gone through that really affects him.
It's not that other great comedians are incapable of eliciting an emotional response like this, but none of them can do this quite like he can and get standing ovations time and time again. He makes it look easy but it's actually really hard. This is why when a strong message like his becomes so misrepresented it's really sad to see.
It shows you that he's right when he says that a lot of people aren't listening. And it's not just that they simply aren't listening to HIM. Many aren't listening to anyone else outside of their isolated community. Worse still many don't even listen to people who understand comedy within their own community.
I'm glad to see how many people understand the issues so well here, whether you're trans or not. Comedy is important as a tool and a form of art and self expression. I personally live in an area where I don't know any trans people because I'm 30 years old in a small little town. But hearing the story about Daphne Dorman made me cry. Chappelle told the story so well that it bridged that gap between me inside the small town I live in and someone I've never heard of until today who exists in a community that I really know nothing about. If you ignore the bridges comedy builds between us then you're missing the point of comedy.
Thanks if you got this far. Dave's message really meant something to me.

2021.10.23 02:48 TrevorIsLegend93 Question about a living history impression. (Crusade of Nicopolis/bastard/surname)

I’ll try and condense this question, but I can be long winded at times so no promises. Essentially I’m looking to do an early 1400’s living history impression/character (about 1420ish) and what I’ve considered for this person/character is that they’re a bastard of a somewhat prominent German Knight, and an English Hospitaller woman that met during the Crusade of Nicopolis. My biggest question is how plausible of a situation could that be? As far as I can see it seems quite possible, but I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything that would make it inaccurate. Also what surname might a bastard of a German knight/noble be at the time? Did they have any kind of prefixes for surnames that would denote a bastard? For all context what I essentially want this person to be is an illegitimate son of a German knight, raised in England, and potentially taken in as a squire by a Hospitaller Knight. (I just thought it might be a fun/interesting idea) Thank you in advance for y’all’s help, this is a little outside of my wheelhouse as I’m more knowledgeable in martial matters than anything.

2021.10.23 02:48 theballz507 My wife found my stash about an hour ago!!!

Been hooked on opiates for 20 years (both of us) We both quit around 7 years ago. Promised to never touch a narcotic again. Something happened 6 months ago around my 43rd birthday.. I got depressed, bored, living on a loop of bullshit. Mental snap? Nervous breakdown? No idea. But, out of nowhere I started feeling like nothing. I felt like I was going to lose my job which I love(just on autopilot basically) anyway life was shitty. Hung out with a friend who was going through some things himself. Offered me a bump. I said no but kinda just sucked it up . I had done it before a few times over the years.. not much, never liked it that much. Long story short.. I was out of my funk for about two days. A couple weeks later I put my 1st order in. Things need to get done right. Need energy. Over the last 6 months... lost weight super fast, worked fast, jerked fast, talked, thought fast.. u know. Thing is, I was feeling great(aside from stomach/ esophagus feeling like it's caving in) nothing but a thing. Remember to eat. 1st couple ordered were small$ but lasted two weeks plus. So cheap I thought. I did quit a little over a month ago for a few days. Even admitted to the wife. I was that committed to making a change. I needed sleep, food, think clearly, feel..... 4 days later totally gave in to my urge I convinced myself to never have again. Had things to do and could not afford to take days off work. So (one little bit... That's It!!) Just gotta get through this job and then all is fine. In construction/ remodeling. Always more to do. In the past two weeks or so been a bit out of control (probably good she found it). Been super busy. Dealing with some family issues. Made so many commitments to people this weekend alone. Now I have no choice but to suck it up and not do my 3x a day ritual of "Energy enhancement " to get shit done. She actually told me to leave a little while ago. She was on to me for a few days. Knew I was extra. Never been this way to me. I totally betrayed her trust. Shitty things to do to people. Now my son (25) knows what was going on with his dad.. lost and so so so so so much I have to do in the next couple days. Not sure how much it's going to suck. I still need energy. Very helpful there. Looks like that's it. I have no idea what to expect or how much this will suck. Any suggestions? Tried nootropics, energy pills, vitamins all last time but wasn't nearly doing this much a day. Went back. .
